It is 3 am, I am very excited because I am waiting for my 2nd book’s proof to arrive in the mail today. Although this is my 2nd time publishing a book, the excitement is still there; I cannot wait to get a hold of the newest addition to the Benyf Books collection. Almost as if a book is a baby that was conceived and that is now being born into the world. One might say, an extension of my spirit.

Speaking of books, I just read an interesting section in Shawn Achor’s book: “The Happiness Advantage.” In this segment, he talked about South African students love for school. When he asked why these students enjoyed completing school work, the response was quite surprising to this Harvard graduate. He was told that their joy stemmed from the fact that they value school; they do not take it for granted, and they also know that it is a privilege that their parents were not necessarily afforded. As a result, going to school is an excitement and a joy to them.

After reading this segment in Shawn’s book, I was prompted to self-reflection. What if I treated books, any book to that effect, the same way that these South African students treated school? What if I valued books more? What if I read more, simply because it is a privilege that many generations before me were not given?

As a result, while I am sitting here, waiting for benyf’s book 2 to arrive in the mail, I want to have an attitude of gratitude for all books in general.

Let’s read.
