As I turn the radio to this local Christian Rock channel, I listen to a report on Orlando, Fl shooting and I also hear them challenge their audience to be the change that they want to see by starting locally. As a result, a Random Act of Kindness challenge is issued. Basically, we have to pay for the person behind us at the grocery store or at the drive-through. I don’t think much about it, I am also not the religious type, but yet, I decide to go ahead and abide to the challenge. Besides, an Oatmeal and Chicken Minis won’t hurt anyone this morning. As I ask the lady at the window to swipe my card a second time for the person behind me, the surprised look on her face, followed by the bright smile that she showcases at 7:45 am, are absolutely priceless. As I pull away from the drive-through, I have a new feeling of positive change. I made someone smile, only with $2.34 and it was priceless. This selfless act suddenly reminds me of my recent thoughts on the subject of happiness; happiness is contentment and contentment is materialized through selflessness. It becomes apparent to me, we do not combat anger with anger, we combat anger with random acts of kindness. We just never know it, small drops of random acts of kindness will soon add up to fill the emptiness of depression, low-tolerance, and supremacist acts.
Your challenge, what’s the best $2 that you have ever spent?
